Dr. Tim McGuine from the University of Wisconsin (UW) presented results from his grant studying overuse volleyball injuries. His original goal once receiving the grant was to include 36 high school, but he ultimately recruited 78 high schools and over 2,000 student-athletes. Over 50% of high schools in Wisconsin supported this research.
Dr. McGuine’s team was able to collect significant data regarding various types of injuries, effects of sports specialization, over the counter (OTC) medicine use, and increased risk of injury. Currently, his team has four papers under review.
